Wall clocks

Who doesn't love them, the detailed Comtoise clocks

Timelessly elegant, they not only inspire us, but can still be found in many households and shops today. Incidentally, Comtoise clocks depict scenes from history, religion or everyday life in the 18th and 19th centuries. These scenes can therefore be seen on the so-called clock plate. The dial, on the other hand, sometimes provides information about the manufacturer and place of manufacture. We are now issuing the Comtoise signs as wall clocks in a small series.

The shield variants made of brass emerged in the 19th century, before that they were made of copper. However, from most of these over 100-200 year old clocks, only the plates and dials remain. You can often only get these one by one. Therefore, at the end of 2019, the idea was born to process these signs into wall clocks in order to preserve the essence of the clocks and make them accessible again for the modern user.

You can follow the manufacturing process here.

Classic harvest motifs adorn this beautiful example of a Comtoise wall clock.

This was the first Comtoise wall clock that we made as a test in a small series in order to arouse the interest of the customer and, of course, ultimately to sell it. On top of that, there was another Comtoise that went, shall we say, a little crazy due to bad damage.

Fallout Comtoise

The Fallout Comtoise is intended to represent the changing times. We intentionally chose the hands to show how this clock has traveled through time.

What's next for the Comtoise wall clocks?

Our upcycling work aims to restore the beautiful clocks to their original charm. That's why every clock has a radio-controlled movement and is therefore technically up to date. We use fine tools to polish the brass plate back to a high gloss. This represents an extremely high requirement for our workshop, because the brass sheet is very thin and does not forgive any mistakes. Then we carefully clean the dial and restore it without destroying the historical substance. We use wooden strips to stabilize the clock on the back. So you can easily hang the clock on the wall. Now we clamp the dial back into the clock and fix the shield to the wooden strips with brass nails. Finally, the clock is photographed and receives a certificate of authenticity with a photo of the clock in PDF format. We keep the certificate for our customers indefinitely. In the event of loss or theft, your insurance company is welcome to contact us.
