The beginningof our
speaker plug

About us

From upcycling to development

There was a record player from the same company in our Telefunken music cabinet. To test it, you need an amplifier that has a magnetic connection for older turntables. We own a Pioneer LX-440A. This receiver has the required connection. Now the story gets exciting: the LX-440A has very special speaker connections, for which there are no longer any plugs. Any attempt to make a reasonable connection to speakers with normal plugs has been a failure. As a result, it quickly became clear to us: we have to develop our own connector!

Here you can see the speaker connections of our Pioneer LX-440A.

First attempt with a dummy

For this purpose, we first took the dimensions of the connections and printed a first dummy. We put copper bars into this dummy. That way, we had a rough model of the speaker plug.

The first dummy can now be seen here. What luck: it fitted immediately! On this basis, a first drawing for a loudspeaker connector could be created. Here you can see the first 3D model for the Pioneer plug. We already set the holes for the M4 screws and the space for the rails and the 4 mm² cables.

Our prototype

On the basis of this model, we produced the first prototypes in our 3D printer. The screws are still simple IT screws that are comparable to an M4. Here we see the prototypes with the cables attached. In fact, the first version worked very well.

Fine-tuning

A plus sign to mark the phase should follow, and a minus sign. We also wanted to place the company logo.

The first candidate for series production had the letters on top. It happened very quickly that these simply fell off. We have to found another solution: indentations are significantly more stable than attached elements. So we decided to leave out the elements.

The final

Here are the finished speaker plug. In addition to the markings for phase and ground, we have decided to use separate colors. Here, red is for the right channel and blue for the left. The final version of the speaker connector now has separate colors.

The plan to build a home bar out of a music cabinet ultimately led to a completely new product. That we would never have thought of before. That was the little story about the rebirth of Neufeldt & Kuhnke in Kiel. You have one thing in mind and in the end something completely different emerges from it. But we are very satisfied with it!
