Sonora Excellence-I radioWill inspire you!

Continuation of our radio upcycling projects! We own an original Sonora radio

In other words, it is the Excellence 200 model. The device originally comes from France. In fact, it is estimated to date back to 1945! Fortunately, we were able to purchase it for our processing! Here you can see the beautiful Bakelite case! It is consequently a plastic from the beginning of the 20th century.

The initial modelwas a completely defective device

Unfortunately, two knobs have already broken from now on. Only the middle one could be preserved. Finally, we do not want to withhold a picture of the rear from you. At first, we just wanted to put the housing in the limelight. After installing Max2Play, it has now become a functional squeeze box. Thus, on top of that, we have created a contemporary device through the conversion. By the way: it can definitely keep up with the current ones on the market!

Further work

• Raspberry Pi
• Mini amplifier
• 8-ohm loudspeaker from Sharp

Here you can see the internal socket for the mini amplifier. It was made with our 3D printer ZMORPH VX. Unfortunately, we had a poor measurement possibility inside the radio. In the end, everything actually worked out! Nevertheless, it took us a few attempts.

3D printingnew production

In addition, we made a plate with our 3D printer. The loudspeakers should be attached to this later. As a result, we are combining old technology with new. There is another special feature of the Sonora Excellence-I radio! It can also be easily connected with a LAN cable.

The great radio is now in the hands of a new, happy owner!
